Can you determine the density of zinc chloride with water?

zinc chloride is water soluble, so can you still determine its volume if it dissolves in water? volume is determined by the water displacement so i'm not really sure if you can use a solvent in which zncl2 is soluble. would it better if you used an insoluble solvent? why?
