Is it possible to become lactose intolerant if it's not hereditary?
Absolutely! Your body can stop producing the enzyme that breaks down the lactose in the milk. When you can't break it down, you get symptoms such as bloating gas etc. No fear, take a product that is over the counter called lactaid and you can eat dairy. By the way, the lactose intolerance testing is very simple. Non invasive so if you want to know for sure, ask the doctor for a prescription for the test. YOu drink a lactose substance and blow into a machine which measures the hydrogen output in our breath. ( lactose Breath test). People with high amounts of hydrogen are not breaking down the lactose and that is how you will know for sure.
